Welcome to the first ever BCRO Member Spotlight! We are going to try and do one of these every month. This month we learn a little about the very interesting Dennis Lightbourn.
How long have you been a member of BCRO?
I joined BCRO late 2019, just in time for the Christmas Party!
Why did you join BCRO?
The Club was welcoming without being intimidating.
Thank you Shane W1ZQI for being you!
When where you first licensed?
July 16th 2019 – right here at a Saturday BCRO Testing Session.
Don Banta K5DB was the VE – he must have left his glasses at home that day!
How long have you been licensed at your current level?
I have held a Technician Class License for 7 months.
My goal is to pass the General Examination within 2 months.
What do you enjoy most about Amateur Radio?
The challenge that learning a new hobby brings, along with the opportunity to be of service in our local community.
I also look forward to fellowship with like-minded individuals. Or not so like-minded individuals as the case may be!
As Hams we have a common bond that I am hoping will bridge the gap that might otherwise keep us from getting to know each other.
What do you hope to gain or learn from Amateur Radio?
My immediate goal is to learn as much as I can to upgrade my license, allowing me to play around on the HF bands.
Along the way it would be nice to learn more about my fellow BCRC members and our community.
If you could choose anyone as a mentor, who would you choose?
An ‘old school’ Ham with an open mind and a spirit to share their knowledge.
If you could sit down for a meal with anyone from history who would you choose?
Any of the Apostles – it would be awesome to hear their first-hand accounts of what we can only read about and imagine.
What is your current occupation?
Building Materials Division Manager at Encore Building Products – NWA’s leading building material supplier!
What’s one thing - either radio related or not - you learned in the last month?
FT8 may actually be REAL ham radio!
What’s the last book you read or listened to?
ARRL’s Antenna Compendium Volume 8. Ok, so I like building antenna’s!
What’s something about you that not many people know (fun or interesting detail)?
I will leave this one unanswered but with an invitation – lets get together for a cup of coffee sometime and learn a bit about each other.
